The Grizzly

Every year a few thousand runners arrive at the Devon coast to take on the challenge of the iconic Grizzly, a 20 (ish) mile challenge.  The route starts on the promenade which is the only flat part of the race, the rest is up and down cliffs, along shingle beaches, through forests, streams and muddy bogs.  The recent wet weather added an extra challenge as some of the descents were near on impossible to keep your footing.

Eight Northampton Road Runners made the long trip, some making their debut into the unknown and some coming back for more punishment.  The event was aptly named, "Grime and Punishment."

Matt Brand made his Grizzly debut and was 229th in a time of 2:29.  Martin Andrews recorded a great time in 3:38 and Steve Prior was pleased to break four hours in 3:50.

The remaining five were returning for for more fun and Jocelyn Granger finished in 4:00 just ahead of Mark Kennedy in 4:02 who took a few tumbles on the route.  Wendy Parker managed to free herself from the Bog of Doom to finish 4:20, the same time as Ronnie Ambrose.  Jim Anderson completed the line up of NRR crazies in 4:34.
