London Marathon Report!

A huge team of runners made their way to London for the first ever running of the Virgin London Marathon. Maree Jesson continued her excellent form just missing out on the 3 hour barrier but recording an amazing 3:01:47. Gary McDaniels flew down the Mall and crossed the line in 3:17:24 just ahead of Mark Nightingale 3:19:17. 50th birthday boy Mark Garrett celebrated in style with a 3:23:15 finish and Jo Windrum came home in a very impressive 3:51:27. Hartley Hancock braved the course with a 3:54:59 finish and club legend Mick Clarke broke four hours to finish in 3:57:10, 8th in the over 70 category as well. Well done Mick!

Dave Blackburn managed an proud 4:02:33 and 21 year old debutant Dave Garrett finished in 4:21:20. Tom Sullivan stayed injury free this year and recorded 4:18:20 and Tony Powell just broke the four and a half hour mark with 4:29:01.

Jo Smith's training paid dividends with a 4:37:12 finish. Next came the two Sue's; Sue Thompson in 4:45:56 just ahead of Sue White in 4:46:49.

Karen Townsend recorded a 5:21:08 finish and then came the fancy dress entrants; Patrick (Spike) Breydin - The Penguin finished in 5:46:39 and Alan Scooby Hackett completed his second 26.2 in consecutive weeks finishing in 6:28:25.

Well done to everyone who took part, you did the club proud. Put your feet up, rest for a while and enjoy your achievement.

  2. Well done to all the NRR runners its great to see so many members in the biggest road race of the year. Had a great run this year, but as usual I managed to get something wrong, my constant hydration efforts before the race started led to two stops at the temporary toilets on the way around. Not something you want to repeat! Was that too much information?
