A Snowy Charnwood Hills

It is a race that is very popular on the NRR calendar and anyone who has spent any time running with Mark G will have heard about the challenging hills and the fantastic cakes at the finish.

The night before the race and the snow falls, the wise veterans of previous Charnwood Hills Races decide that an extra hour or two in bed is what they need leaving three Charnwood first timers, Tony Letts, Jocelyn Granger and Martin Andrews to take the challenge.

They may have been foolish but after travelling to Anstey they were joined by a number of hardy runners who were prepared to take the challenge of a 14 mile snowy route under a clear and sunny Leicestershire sky.

Cheered on by lots of people sledging and dog walkers all three finished the race with smiles on their faces, a bit of blood and cleaner shoes than they started with. Tony Letts led the NRR home finishing in 35th in 1:50:20 followed by Martin Andrews 100th in 2:04:52 and Jocelyn Granger 192nd in 2:25:16.

With a total ascent of 1200ft the going was really tough getting a grip in the snow whilst watching out for the sledges - not the kids but the adults!
