Dunstable Cross Country...

Cross-Country Dunstable Sun 14th Nov.

The deep, heavy mud of the clay quarries of Dunstable seemed somehow fitting for Remembrance Sunday. A fine crowd of 26 containing a number with heavy legs from Saturday at Seagrave made sure we were noticed in another big field. The cavalry charge as we started was a terrifying sight for those out for a quiet Sunday stroll.

Our ladies team keeps on getting stronger at every race. Ruth Court joined us sporting a pair of spotless new off-roaders, they will never be as clean again. A top 50 finish and our 3rd scoring lady was a great debut. Young guns Steph Russell and Jo Lee led home the ladies to a very good team score. Claire McDaid seemed to enjoy her 1st X-C with us loving the muddy course and running a good race.

For the men it was a reversal of places with Tony Letts getting the better of Keith Jellyman this time in the battle to be top dog. Gary McDaniels’ blisters from Saturday slowed him slightly but still produced a good run being chased by Mark Nightingale. This was Mark’s 1st X-C after doing years of road running and he proved to us all that he can run in the mud and promises to be back for more. Needing a recovery run after last week’s marathon Lynton Dawson ran within himself and still produced a good run and kept his trainers clean somehow. Claire Spokes, Jocelyn Granger, Peter Moores, Jim Anderson and Mark Glenn are now classed as X-C veterans and joined the other regulars in hard races against friends and rivals you meet from the other clubs.

There are only 2 weeks to clean the mud off before we meet again at Delapre Abbey on 28th November. Details are on www.threecountiesx-c.co.uk under event3.
