Guilsborough X-Country (Down Dale and Uphill) Sun 23rd Jan

The 4th and final race of another cross-country season saw a fine looking bunch of 24 NRRs including Charlotte who successfully navigated her way to darkest Guilsborough.

12 of these were completing the full house of all 4 races. These club stars were;
Sally Garrett, Mary Kingsnorth, Carol Whatton, Jocelyn Granger, Claire Spokes, Ronnie Ambrose, Mark Kennedy, Peter Moore, Dave Whatton, Gary McDaniels, Jim Anderson and Tony Letts ....each and every one a star.

An extended 5.5 mile course meant more mud than usual and of course plenty of hills on this lovely course based on the Pytchley Hunt point to point course. Star man Tony Letts had another great run in the top 20 once more. His days in Cumbria mean that our hills are just pimples to him. Mark Kennedy was back in his dancing pumps and they did the job as he produced his best ever finish. Fast improving Peter Moore made the scorers and he will be in the top 100 soon.

Jim Anderson also has improved at each race and is eyeing making the score sheet. The tough finish was obvious to all by the sights and sounds as they finished. Debutant Charlotte Yarker is a natural and led home the ladies in fine style looking hardly tired for an excellent 30th place in their race. Jocelyn Granger keeps improving and is our regular 2nd lady and Jo Smith pushed hard up the hill to get the ladies a good score.

The fierce competition amongst the ladies to make the three scorers means no talking during the races anymore but plenty of pushing and shoving. It is just as competitive at the sociable end of the field and there was another improving run from Claire Spokes again obviously enjoying her racing.

With 38 club runners taking part in the series and excellent performances by Steph Russell, Tony Letts and Keith Jellyman at the front end of races the club has had a very good X-C season. Everyone who takes part is a star as it is a team event and every place is important.

We will be starting another season in October but there are plenty of races out there for you to try.

Thanks also to those who helped Team East Haddon put on this race by marshalling. Your encouragement and cheers were very welcome. East Haddon were very grateful for your assistance.
