Milton Keynes Marathon & Half

The Milton Keynes Bank Holiday Marathon Festival is short distance for Northampton Road Runners and five of our members made the trip.

The event is well supported and takes in a boring but flat half of the course for those seeking a potential PB but a few sharp twists and turns can soon throw your pace off balance.

Starting at some stadium in Milton Keynes, the route heads towards the centre along dual carriageways and around many of the infamous roundabouts and offers plenty of room for runners as the field starts to spread out.  After a few squares around the centre with a great atmosphere, the route heads back on itself before splitting at 10 miles for the marathoners to take in a more scenic route heading to the country.

The half teases runners by going past the finish, then the prettiest part of the course around a lake and then back into the stadium for a grandstand finish for a great reception.

The route is lined with enthusiastic locals ready to cheer everyone on in the May Day sun.  Two miles from the end was a lively group offering runners a cup of beer should they need one.

There were some great performances from our members.  Eamon Kennedy decided to celebrate a well earned week off and then lacing up again to complete his second marathon in just over a week in 4:12:47.

John Eales was almost bang on five hours with a time of 5:00:13.  Star of the day was Keren Irving, winner of the club place.  She smiled her way around the course to complete her first marathon in 5:21:33 and looked like she loved every minute of it.

In the half distance, Mark Kennedy enjoyed a great run with a PB of
1:32:33, finishing 84th overall. Cathy Millar completed her second half marathon challenge in 2:27:51
