On Saturday 10th July 2010, Mary Davies fancied a challenge with a difference! At 1am (yes am) she set off with a group of nine to complete the Lyke Wake Walk which covered approx 40 miles. Out of the nine, only two finished including Mary, in 17 hours. Although she completed the mammoth challenge, Mary was a little disappointed not to get round the route a little quicker. "I would have liked to have completed it in 15 hours but for various reasons (like getting lost) it was not possible. The terrain varied from very steep inclines and descents, to flatish boggy marshland and barren moors which went on for ever."
Fell runners/runners were also taking part in this challenge which was well supported and with check points and drinks at stages across the 40 miles. Just a thought for the likes of Mick and Harley who may like to take part in next years race?
